Pitra Satvika : Rekap Studi Kasus Social Media Indonesia

This image has no alt text

Blog ini kesannya jarang di-update ya? Memang iya sih :D .

Geek Chic! : Geek Chic Tips

burlesquecostumesheekstyleOkay, so the term “Geek Chic” has become fairly well known now (at least in the circles that matter!), and I think geeks in general have a pretty good idea of works for their individual style. Occasionally though I come across trends and ideas that I think would be really helpful for the geek community, which is what this blog is all about!

If you’re new to the whole geek chic scene, then let me give you a clearer idea of what it is all about. Geeks over the years haven’t been better known for old anoraks, faded star wars t-shirts and not-so-enticing body odour. As the years have passed though, and geek fashion has improved, we geeks have kept the individualistic style, shile losing the stereotypes. Head to any geek convention nowadays, and you are going to see more and more geek chic style icons than ever before. Classic horn rimmed glasses, a fedora hat or coloured bowler hat, bow ties, ties, and even the occasional cravat will be seen, and geek chicks are often super sexy in cosplay or burlesque costumes.

Again, if you’re new to the scene, you have to understand that geeks and nerds aren’t the same thing. We geeks have our own style and identity, and love traditionally geeky conversations and gadgets. Unlike nerds we are very style conscious, and aren’t afraid to look good while discussing the latest sci fi book or movie, and pulling apart the latest movie adaptation of our favourite book series.

So where do you start? Can you just slap on a vest and a bow tie and “shazam” you’re now a chic geek? Of course not. Like any style, you have to find your own place in it, and figure out what will suit you best. An easy way to start is to do a bit of browsing online for geek fashion, and find a look that not only appeals to you, but will also suit your body shape and personal image. This takes time, so feel free to experiment and ask your fellow geekfs for their opinion. Only ask those who clearly have a style of their own though, as with all fashion, some people just have a better eye for style than others.

Once you’ve put together an ensemble of ideas, it’s time to go shopping! Geek chic is about quality, so don’t go cheap. This doesn’t mean you need to buy a Versace bow tie, but in general, stay away from places like eBay and other “garage sale” sites. Here are a few places to help you get started:

www.bowtiesonline.com.au

www.tieshq.com.au

www.cravathq.com.au

www.burlesquecostumeshq.com.au

These are more Australian focused, but they should give you an idea of the kind of prices and quality you should be aiming for. Don’t be afraid to experiment, and always buy from a store that allows exchanges, especially when you are first starting out, as some items make work, while others don’t. It’s also perfectly normal for your friends and family to ask you why you are starting to dress differently. Just remember, true geek chic afficionados know they look good, and don’t care what non-geeks think!
